Chapter 4Forensic Intelligence
Pages: 21
Forensics as a science is experiencing shifts following the challenges of changes in human interests. The challenges that flow to get along with technology, from manual procedures to digital, and then artificial intelligence technology, give forensics as a science a new definition for developing in a better direction while maintaining its methodology. This change has introduced digital forensics, involving computers as processing subjects that make forensics work easier and resulting in computers (digital) as objects where forensics works to validate identity and treatment of events. On the one hand, forensics in general works to recognize patterns after an event to reveal before the event occurs, and patterns vary from each event and require descriptions to be compared with previously available information. In this way, there is an interaction between forensics and any technology which forms a development of science and technology to fulfill this attitude toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This interaction indirectly reveals the role of artificial intelligence as providing characteristics to current forensics science, namely, energy import, solution, output, the series of activities, negative entropy, information, steady state, differentiation, coordination, and equifinality. Despite the increasing burden of pattern recognition, existing recognition methods, such as chromatography, toxicology, ballistics, etc., are also supported by AI. Besides that, forensics science has added new tasks as a development idea for recognizing identity and treating data and information, computing systems, and others. In this way, the interaction between artificial intelligence and forensics accumulates into what is called forensics intelligence.
